📢 🇺🇦 🇷🇺 The Ukrainian GUR reports that Russia has suspended production of the Geran-3 jet-drone, as it focuses on maximising its production of the modernised Geran-4 jet-drone.

The Geran-3 was reportedly just a transitional step between the Geran-2 and Geran-4, as it maintained the original Geran-2 airframe, with only the motor being replaced with a jet engine.

This would explain why the Geran-3 hasn't been spotted in use for some time.

📝 Labrador Skeptic: The problem with long wars is that the technological innovation is continuous, which drives ever greater obsolescence of pre-existing weapons.

The slow (~100 mph) Geran-2 "flying lawnmowers" Russia bought from Iran are long gone, and the new generation of ~300 mph jet-powered Geran-4s are what Russia is using long-distance to effectively shut down Ukrainian shipping in the Black Sea, which means shutting down 88% of their former export routes.

The Geran-3 added (Chinese) jet engines, the Geran-4 completely redid the frame to make it suitable for not just high speeds, but to be maneuverable at those speeds. And that tech will be here from here forward, and will likely be in the Gulf shortly if it isn't already there.

Iran/Russia innovated with flying lawnmowers, Ukraine with US technological assistance developed effective anti-drone countermeasures, and those countermeasures are all now obsolete versus the new much faster, higher altitude and maneuverable kamikaze drones. They're more expensive, but Russia is still able to make more than 3k of them a month, per Ukraine.

These are effectively a hybrid of sorts, halfway between the prop-powered drones, and subsonic cruise missiles. Except they are much cheaper to make at volume than cruise missiles. Coming soon to a war near you.

📝 🇺🇸 🇨🇳 Labrador Skeptic on X: The technological innovation then drives the industrial question. Russia uses cheap Chinese jet engines, just as almost everyone (except the US) uses cheap Chinese electronics for their drones.

Can the US gear up to produce 10k very small, very cheap jet-engines a month?

How long will it take to do it? Who will do it?

I don't believe this is a realistic possibility for the major US defense manufacturers at this point. They might be able to produce small numbers of engines at high prices in 5-10 years(?).

OTOH, we absolutely do graduate the Aeronautical, Mechanical & Electrical engineers to make this happen & quickly.

By law & now HR departments the hiring is now on a DEI basis, with visa hires, women & blacks given priority, and jobs treated as a reward to be allocated to favored political groups. That kind of culture is not capable of catching up to China or Russia.

So, the greater the degree of technological revolution, the faster the DEI culture must be driven from our institutions. Or, we lose, likely badly at some point.

🏹 🇺🇦 🇷🇺 The mysterious Shahed like Ukrainian drone that has been repeatedly spotted during strikes deep inside Russia finally has a name: MICH 2000.

Until now, almost nothing was publicly known about it. The drone is used exclusively by the SBU’s Alpha unit, can fly up to 2,000 km and carries a warhead weighing between 25 and 60 kg.

Thousands have already been launched, striking hundreds of targets across Russia and occupied territories. Among its known targets are a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber at Engels airbase, the Baltic Fleet naval base, the port of Ust Luga, targets around Moscow and a Russian electronic warfare system near Putin’s palace in Gelendzhik.

🏹 🇺🇦 🇷🇺 The mysterious Shahed like Ukrainian drone that has been repeatedly spotted during strikes deep inside Russia finally has a name: MICH 2000. Until now, almost nothing was publicly known about it. The drone is used exclusively by the SBU’s Alpha unit…
🏹 🇺🇦 🇨🇳 Ukraine’s MICH 2000 is a long-range strike UAV developed from the Chinese ZTK 150/Z150 platform.

The drone has a configuration resembling the Iranian Shahed-136, although its most distinctive visual feature is the pair of forward canards. According to available information, the original plan was to import the Chinese platform, but production was instead localized in Ukraine following an import ban.

MICH 2000 has reportedly been in service since autumn 2024 and is said to be operated exclusively by the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center. Images show the UAV in both black and gray configurations.

According to the manufacturer, MICH 2000 has a range of up to 2,000 km (1,243 miles) and can carry a 25–60 kg (55–132 lbs) warhead. The basic version is priced at around $48,000, with approximately 85% of its components localized in Ukraine.

The company is also developing a MICH+ variant with a stated range of up to 600 km (373 miles) and a 70 kg (154 lbs) warhead. Unlike the MICH 2000, the planned variant is said to omit the forward canards.

🇨🇳 🇹🇼 🇲🇨 The Republic of China (Taiwan) has condemned China's plan to hold a navigation exercise with an Indonesian warship off the island's east coast.

They requested Indonesia provide further details after China's defence ministry announced it would hold the exercise jointly with Indonesia in mid-August.

The exercise is part of a return journey for the Indonesian ship from Vladivostok.

China stated that this exercise or Passex is a common goodwill engagement carried out by navies across the world as a show of naval brotherhood and the maritime diplomacy that goes hand in hand with warships particularly when passing through their own territorial waters.

🤖 🇮🇳 👨‍💻 The AI boom threatens to leave millions of Indian workers unemployed, as automation spreads from the country’s tech sector into manufacturing, with nearly 40% of Indian graduates under 25 already unemployed.

The formulaic tasks that millions of Indians perform in their daily jobs leave them particularly vulnerable to replacement by AI. Despite the country’s large number of tech workers, Indian has made paltry gains in the AI sector and is largely dependent on foreign products.

🌪🇺🇸 🇺🇸 Texas currently holds the record for most tornadoes in a single year, with 245 tornadoes in 2015.

As of tonight, Illinois sits with at least 200 confirmed tornadoes, becoming the 2nd state ever to accomplish this. Texas' record is in serious jeopardy of falling.

📝 Mobile Weather Office: "Note that Texas is ~4.5x larger than Illinois, making this year’s tornado count in Illinois that much more impressive."

In the Omelnyk direction, Russia has finally captured the Ukrainian stronghold town of Zaliznichnoe after over 7 months of battles, and are making new advances west of the Gaichur River towards Vozdvizhevka.
🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Situation on the Omelnyk & Pokrovskoye directions, Zaporozhye/Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts:

Over the last three weeks, both Russian and Ukrainian forces have continued high-intensity assault operations, each making significant progress in different parts of this sector.

In the southwest, Russian forces established control over the town of Zaliznichnoye after threatening to outflank it from the west, and cleared the nearby village of Staroukrainka. From here, they began a general push westwards under heavy artillery and MLRS cover, infiltrating the village of Gorky and advancing even further west to the fields north of Gulyapolskoe. Other assault groups made marginal advances in two areas along the highway northeast of Gulyaipolskoe.

To the north, Russian forces achieved a localised breakthrough, capturing the main part of Verkhnya Tersa after weeks of fighting, and breaking through west to the fields, reaching the eastern outskirts of Kopani and Dolynka, which they are now storming under heavy artillery/MLRS and KAB glide-bomb cover. From there, some assault groups began infiltrating north to the fields east of Rivne, partially isolating a series of Ukrainian strongpoints situated north of Verkhnya Tersa.

At the same time, Russian forces initiated a large-scale assault operation further north, capturing the village of Tsvitkove and a series of fortifications in and around the railway line that runs along the tactical heights. Other assault groups then began intensifying their infiltrations into Vozdyvzhovka, with some soldiers reaching the gulley west of the town.

🇺🇦⚔️🇷🇺 Situation on the Pokrovskoye & Komar directions, Donetsk/Dnipropetrovsk Oblast:

The Second battle for Komar has begun:

As a part of their ongoing coordinated series of counterattacks, Ukrainian forces have managed to re-enter the town of Komar, which was captured by Russia over a year ago in mid-June 2025.

Over the last three weeks, Ukrainian forces continued their counterattacks, clearing large parts of the grey-zone and breaking through into the Russian tactical rear.

In the southwest, Ukrainian forces recaptured the villages of Voronoe and Sichneve, along with the surrounding treelines, and are now pushing south/southeast towards Komyshuvakha and Maleevka. Other forces cleared the village of Alexandrograd, re-establishing control over the eastern bank of the Vovcha River, before recapturing the village of Voskresenka. The fall of Voskresenka allowed Ukrainian assault groups to push south to the fields east of Maleevka, where heavy fighting is now underway, with Russia dropping large numbers of KAB glide-bombs on advancing Ukrainian soldiers.

To the northeast, Ukrainian forces advanced southeast from Poddubnoe and established control over the village of Mirnoe. Other assault groups subsequently cleared the large expanse of fields between Poddubnoe and Alexandrograd, and began advancing towards Fedorovka from the northwest. Additionally, Ukrainian forces recaptured the forests east of Poddubnoe, which they are using as a springboard for crossing the Mokri Yaly River via the highway bridge and advancing to Perebudovaya from the north. This is being conducted simultaneously with limited crossings of the river from Mirnoe into the western streets of Komar.

The situation here for Russia is critical, and if they don't re-establish a coherent defence along the eastern bank of the river north of Komar, they could risk losing control over the entire town. This would be a massive setback for their forces attempting to establish control over the Donetsk-Dnipropetrovsk regional border, and secure the right flank to neighbouring units who will try to reach Pokrovskoye

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Situation on the Dobropolye direction, Donetsk Oblast: Over the last 10 days, Russian forces continued their offensive operations on Dobropolye, where they have made new advances in multiple different areas, while carrying out deep infiltrations behind…
🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Situation on the Dobropillya direction, Donetsk Oblast:

Over the last three weeks, the situation has sharply deteriorated for Ukraine, as Russia makes a series of tactical breakthroughs into the most heavily defended sector of the frontline.

In the southwest, Russian forces continued clearing the salient west of Grishino, advancing further west north of the highway. Other assault groups advanced south of Mirnoe, entrenching in the forested gulleys, and infiltrating further west along the southern bank of the Grishinka River.

To the northeast, the Russians improved their positions north and northeast of Vasylovka, continued fighting for Mirnoe, and captured a large number of treeline positions southwest of Shevchenko. Some infiltrators have managed to reach the southern approaches to Novogrishino and Matyashevo.

These attacks are being carried out in coordination with a large-scale operation from the east, which has resulted in Russia breaking through Ukraine's main defences east of Svetloye, and gaining a foothold in the northeastern part of the town. Heavy fighting is now underway for Svetloye and neighbouring Vodianskoye, where the grey-zone has been significantly expanded. Additionally, some Russian soldiers are infiltrating north into the villages of Chernigovka (Krasnoyarskoe) and further west from there into Krasnopodolye.

To the northeast, Russian forces cleared the fields east, northeast, and southeast of Belitskoye, before entering and capturing the majority of the city. From there, they are attempting to capture the Belitska Mine and support operations in Chernigovka (Krasnoyarskoye) from the east. Fighting continues with some partially-isolated Ukrainian formations in the southwestern part of Belitskoye.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Situation south of the city of Druzhkovka: Gruzskoe-Raiskoe-Nikolaevka area Satellite images of the Donetsk region, taken on August 7, 2026, by the Sentinel satellite—under cloudless weather conditions—enabled analysis of multiple front-line sections…
🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Situation on the Druzhkovka direction, Donetsk Oblast:

Russian commanders achieve a significant tactical breakthrough after more than a year of stalemate on this sector

Over the last few weeks, Russian forces have significantly intensified their assault operations southwest of Druzhkivka, capturing seven different villages.

In the west, Russian forces captured the tactical heights north of Toretskoye after months of fighting. This, combined with the clearance of the remaining northern part of the village, allowed Russia to break through Ukrainian defences on the heights to the north and capture large swaths of the forested gullies south of Gruzka River.

To the east, Russian forces cleared the villages of Novopavlovka and Pavlovka, which were previously in the grey-zone, and used them to advance further north up the eastern bank of the Kazeny Torets River. They were able to village hop, capturing Priyut, Torskoye, and then Toretskoye, before infiltrating east into the villages of Petrovka and Raiskoye. Additionally, some assault groups crossed the Kazeny Torets River and captured Krasny Kut.

This puts Russian troops less than 4 miles (~6 km) southwest of the city of Druzhkovka.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Russian units achieved another breakthrough up north in the Volchansk-Prykolotnoye sector in Kharkov.

Russian commanders launched a two-pronged attack aiming to cut and encircle a Ukrainian salient in Kharkov Oblast.

As a result of recent advances, they captured the villages of Artyolnoe, Ustinovka, Ivashchino, Anishchino, Shevyakovka, Zibyno, Karaichnoye, Volcha, Lyman, and Volokhovka, and are now engaged in fighting for Volokhovskoye, Zakharovka, Ivanovka, Vasylovka, Vodyanoye, Olkhovatka, Dovzhanka, and Kupino. Forward assault groups from the two pincers are currently just 8 km from cutting off the large Ukrainian salient.

However, the main target of this offensive may be the town of Prykolotnoye, which hosts the main highway intersection, and is responsible for most logistics in this sector. It's fall would make defending the Bely Kolodez direction much more difficult.

When overlaying this on a topographic map, we can see that Prykolotnoye is situated on one of the highest points of the tactical heights, overlooking the surrounding low-lying ground near the international border.

Not only is it a crucial logistical hub, but it also serves as key tactical highpoint. Although, if Ukraine withdraws from the areas north of it before the town falls, its worth as a logistical point will be significant diminished until Russia can capture it and transform it into their own logistical hub.
