⚡️🇾🇪🇮🇷 Yemen’s defence minister has said that diplomatic efforts to persuade Iran and the Houthi militias to stop violating Yemeni airspace have failed. “Patience has run out,” he said.
The minister accused Iran of using Iranian aircraft to breach Yemeni airspace, describing the act as a challenge to international legitimacy.
He warned that the armed forces will respond with all available means to any hostile aviation that violates Yemeni sovereignty, and that Iran bears full legal and moral responsibility.

—❗️🇮🇷 Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiyaa Central Command:
– The repeated adventurism and hostile actions of the U.S. in interfering in the Strait of Hormuz have seriously jeopardized regional security, trade, and maritime traffic.
– The cooperation of some regional countries has severely increased the risk of war spreading throughout the region.
– In accordance with previous warnings, we will not allow the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz in any way, shape, or form.
– Leaders of regional countries are warned that any cooperation with the United States and the provision of logistical support to its aggressive military constitutes an act of war against Iran's sovereignty and national security. Should war spread in the region, the flames of war will engulf all countries in the region.
– The responsibility for all insecurity and the expansion of war in the region lies solely with the United States and the countries that cooperate with the military of that criminal country.

—❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷 President Trump on Truth Social:
‘The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran. We are reinstating the THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving. All other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait.
The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as “THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World. The process and formation will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’

👮♂️ 🇬🇧 ✡️ An extra 500 police officers are to be deployed in dedicated units to protect Jewish communities across England and Wales following a wave of anti-Semitic attacks.
Ministers have agreed to devote more than £250m to boosting security in Jewish neighbourhoods and around schools, synagogues and community centres
Measures will include a new specialist team of 300 Metropolitan Police officers dedicated to protecting Jewish communities in London, following incidents including the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green in April and a series of firebomb and arson attacks on synagogues.
The money will also enable the continuation of Project Servator, which deploys specialist and plain-clothes officers who are trained to identify suspicious behaviour and prevent serious crime.

Celebrating Red Lives
On an unseasonably cold May 21, the backroom of the Takoma Park Busboys and Poets warmed to a rendition of “Come On In This House.” DC Labor Chorus founder Elise Bryant and socialist scholar Kurt Stand introduced Jay Schaffner, editor of Red Lives: Our Years in the US Communist Party (1950–2000). Chris Townsend, a union member and leader for 47 years, also shared his experience with the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) during the panel discussion. In Red Lives’ three volumes, fifty writers who were (or still are) CPUSA members reclaim a half-century of party activities overlooked by the U.S. Left. In this first volume, they illuminate what it was like to grow up in the party, what drew them to it, and why they stayed.
For Schaffner, the CPUSA was proof that “something else was possible in this world” beyond the capitalist grind. Communists earned this proof as they worked and organized in factories, in their hometowns, or across the country. Townsend recounted his move to Tampa to search for work, only to be swept up into organizing a wall-to-wall unit for the Amalgamated Transit Union with other Communists. He also related a revelatory experience from the 1980s. Townsend and his comrades had been sent to Moscow in a party delegation. Townsend was their elected chair that day; they planned to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There, they learned that New York Governor Mario Cuomo had come with his delegation to do the same. Townsend shared his 1987 photograph of Cuomo in Red Square. But, as communists, the CPUSA delegation had the right to go first. The moment proved that — Townsend paused — “In a socialist system, workers meant something.”
Townsend, Stand, and Schaffner shared how they had learned about communism or labor radicalism within the stultifying atmosphere of McCarthyism. For some, it was in moments of realization and radicalization sent out over the shortwave by Radio Moscow. For others, through books by Marx and Lenin, hidden in closets or paper bags by their parents. Reds, actor-director Warren Beatty’s film dramatization of Ten Days That Shook the World, was a touchstone for communist organizers. In the CPUSA, they found multiracial camaraderie and a place in a larger movement for justice and against capitalism.
But the work the CPUSA did in the second half of the 20th century has not inspired similar appreciation beyond scattered moments, such as the CPUSA’s role in the campaign to free Angela Davis in the early ’70s. As Schaffner explained, “Most histories of the CPUSA end in 1955.” Many New Left historians of the ’60s and ’70s had built their movement’s reputation by trying to bury the CPUSA’s. Works like Vivian Gornick’s 1977 The Romance of American Communism glorify the CPUSA’s organizing at its peak in the ’30s and ’40s.
