Kagan founded in 1997 together with fellow neocon columnist, Bill Kristol, the Project for the New American Century, an NGO/think-tank that advocated for every major war the U.S. was involved in since 1997, from Afghanistan, to Iraq, to Libya, Syria and even Iran.
After the 1998 bombing of Iraq was announced Kagan said "bombing Iraq isn't enough" and called on Clinton to send ground troops to Iraq. Kagan left the Republican Party in 2016 when they nominated Donald Trump for president.
Kagan is also married to former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, who is largely responsible for causing the Russo-Ukrainian War.
In his op-ed for The Atlantic, Kagan doesn't mince words. He says that Iran has become "one of the key players in the world" thanks to its firm control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The most problematic part of the 3rd Gulf War according to Kagan is that it exposed the inherent weaknesses of the U.S. military and worst of all, that it "can't finish what it started" and an unreliable ally in relation to the GCC countries who had defense agreements with the U.S.
The author is extremely skeptical that the current blockade or a new round of bombings would collapse the Islamic Republic of Iran, pointing out that the reason the bombing stopped was Iran's precise attacks on the oil & gas infrastructure across the Middle East.
In the interest of preserving what's left of the American Empire, Kagan advises Trump to walk away now, accept that the U.S. is no longer the biggest military power in the Persian Gulf and acquiesce to the new status-quo rather than risk the resumption of war and the inevitable destruction of the economies of the GCC countries.

Turki bin Faisal points out that both Iranian and Israeli ambitions in the Middle East pose a threat to Saudi sovereignty and praises MBS for not taking a side in this conflict as the war was not in Saudi Arabia's interests. He advises the current Saudi ruler that with the withdrawal and destruction of American assets in the region it is in the Kingdom's interest to step up and provide security to its GCC neighbours.
Recall that ever since the 3rd Gulf War began, a series of fake stories were published in Western journals alleging that Riyadh joined the war against Iran and after the ceasefire, that it was "pressuring" the U.S. to restart the conflict.
It is now clear that the stories about "Saudi" pressure on the U.S. to restart the war were part of an Israeli disinformation campaign to shift the blame on the war and the ensuing global economic crisis onto other actors in the region.

This is how Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman succeeded
Since the US-Israeli war on Iran erupted on Feb. 28, discordant voices in our region and in Western media have grown louder, questioning Saudi Arabia’s position on a conflict the Kingdom had initially worked hard to prevent, and then made intensive efforts…
More videos published by the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division show drone operators destroying a mock amphibious landing vehicle resembling a PLA ZBD-05 amphibious assault vehicle.
The target craft is about 9 meters long, roughly 90% the size of the actual ZBD-05, and capable of speeds exceeding 30 knots (around 56 km/h), allowing it to realistically replicate a high-speed amphibious assault target during live-fire training.

Recently, the German Army conducted a large-scale teaching and experimental exercise at the Munster North training area, featuring extensive use of drones, loitering munitions, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), digitalized battlefield networks, and manned-unmanned teaming concepts.
The exercise highlighted how deeply the Bundeswehr is adapting its future doctrine around lessons learned from the war in Ukraine.

Satellite images taken in 2024 and in 2026 shows a stark difference. Russia has expanded the A-280 highway (M-14 inside the DPR) connecting Rostov, Taganrog, Mariupol and Berdyansk from one lane to two lanes and added a brand new section going around the city of Mariupol.
The A-280 highway (M-14) will be expanded further from Berdyansk to Melitopol and then the urban centers in Crimea completing the "Azov Ring".
Besides roads, Russia has also been seen digging ditches for water pipes and building new power lines. Satellite images show that inside Mariupol some neighbourhoods have been rebuilt on top of a completely new microdistrict on the western side however, most of the city still remains destroyed.
Russia has also expanded the Mariupol-Donetsk highway. Roads have a dual military-civilian use. Satellite images show that in 2024 Russia finished building a railway link between Mariupol and Donetsk, bypassing the town of Volnovakha which was, prior to the fall of Vugledar, under Ukrainian fire control and the passage of trains impossible.
