Fortunately for American war planners, a similar operation to what they intend to do on Kharg Island happened in the early days of the Russo-Ukrainian War when Russia conquered Snake Island, off the coast of Ukraine and Romania's Danube Delta.
Both Kharg and Snake Island are roughly 22 miles from their country's respective coastlines and can be struck from the shore by heavy artillery, not to mention, drones.
Russian troops arrived by helicopter on Snake Island on February 24th 2022 and took the Ukrainian garrison prisoner. The plan was to strangle Ukraine's biggest port, Odessa, and prevent any ships from coming or leaving.
Due to the importance of Odessa and the massive amounts of grains which were being exported through the port, Ukraine bombed the Russian garrison on Snake Island relentlessly destroying all standing structures on the island and by the end of June 2022, Russia would abandon the island which Ukraine would reoccupy and Russia would afterwards never attempt to invade again.
If the U.S. attempts to seize Kharg island and somehow does not destroy the oil infrastructure on it, Iran most certainly will bomb that infrastructure in order to cause as much economic pain to the U.S. as possible, besides targeting the American garrison stationed on it.

It will take years, if ever, to recover. Moscow and Beijing know this.
Papperger is talking about air defense munitions specifically, mentioning that his company is receiving orders from the Middle East and the U.S. on top of Europe to produce drone interceptors and interceptors for missiles.
Reminder that Rheinmetall has a six year order backlog of orders and their share price has increased 1,700% since the start of the war in Ukraine.

German coal plants have increased their share of generation by about 2% so far this month compared with February, even as sunnier and windier conditions boost renewables, according to Entso-E data. At the same time, gas-fired power output in Europe’s biggest market has dropped by more than a third.
If the shift gains further momentum, implications will stretch well beyond power markets. It underscores the fragility of Europe’s energy strategy, which relies heavily on gas as a bridge between coal and renewables. It also raises the prospect that governments may prioritize affordability and energy security over emissions cuts.
“We estimate it is still about 30% more expensive for a power plant to burn gas than coal to produce electricity in Europe,” Myles Allsop, an analyst at UBS Group AG, wrote in a note. “We see potential for the EU to restart dormant coal power plants if the energy crisis worsens.”
Still, any broader switch from gas to coal may be limited as spring progresses and warmer weather leads to lower demand. Germany’s power load has fallen about 10% so far in March from February and is slightly lower than a year ago, according to Entso-E.

We may have to declare force majeure on LNG contracts for up to 5 years, affecting Italy, Belgium, Korea, and China due to the two damaged trains.
I mean, these are long-term contracts that we have to declare force majeure. We already declared, but that was a shorter term. Now it's whatever the period is.

Israeli defense companies, most of whom are partly owned by the Israeli government such as Elbit Systems Ltd, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), have an $80 billion worth backlog of orders.
This is more than what Israel spends on healthcare or its interest payments.
The latest to publish its financial report showing an increase in the order backlog is Elbit Systems Ltd., the most valuable Israeli company traded on the TASE and Wall Street. Elbit ended 2025 with an order backlog at a record level of $28.1 billion, up $2.9 billion in the fourth quarter alone and $5.5 billion from 2024.
By geographic region, Israel accounted for 32.2% of sales in 2025, with over $2.5 billion, a growth of 28.6%. Europe, where sales grew by 17.5% to $2.1 billion, accounted for 27% of sales, and North America with a share of 20.9% and an annual growth of 9.1%.
Elbit Systems is by no means the only Israeli company benefiting from the big demand for defense products. Others have already published their financial reports, including IAI, which had an orders backlog of $29 billion at the end of 2025, compared with $25 billion at the end of 2024.
Next Vision had an orders backlog of $218 million at the end of 2025, which had already climbed to $288 million last week. Rafael, will report its latest figures in the coming few days, but several months ago its orders backlog was $22 billion.
At Rafael, which, unlike IAI and Elbit, that are more focused overseas, the orders backlog is split roughly 50-50 between Israel and abroad.
The backlog of orders of Israeli defense companies will translate into sales in the coming years and provides prosperous prospects for the companies and their investors.
At a conference held by Elbit at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, CFO Dr. Kobi Kagan said, "The results are very strong. We have crossed the $500 million mark in free cash flow, and for the first time we reported quarterly revenue of over $2 billion, a record quarter."

Israel’s defense companies report record $80 billion backlog as global demand surges

Japan’s cities and villages are starting to experience fuel shortages affecting everything from public transport to farming, as disruptions from the Iran war seep deeper into daily life.
The import-dependent nation relies on the Middle East for nearly all of its oil, and has been hit particularly hard by the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Major refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co. this week started cutting supply to customers, and the nation’s gasoline prices surged 18% in the past week to the highest level in records dating back 36 years.
Some farmers have reported struggles to secure diesel for tractors and other equipment ahead of planting season, which typically starts in April, with distributors limiting sales and hunting for alternative supplies.
“My biggest concern is not being able to supply the diesel” that farmers need, said Masato Sannohmaru, fuel station manager at an agricultural cooperative in Ohgata, a village in the northern Akita Prefecture. Multiple suppliers have said they have no inventory to deliver, he added.
Transportation authorities in major cities like Tokyo and Kyoto are also having trouble procuring fuel. The Kyoto City transportation bureau earlier this week failed to award a tender for bus fuel for April-May, according to a city official. Tokyo’s Metropolitan Government reported a similar failure for an April-June tender.
City officials said fuel suppliers have been reluctant to participate in tenders because the estimated price set by authorities before the start of the war is now far lower than market prices.

This will drop US oil reserves to just ~34% of total capacity, leaving little room for further releases.
If the Iran War drags on, the gap between WTI Crude, Brent, and Asian oil prices will narrow.
