🇸🇾 🤝 🟨 — New Syrian Government reintegrating Kurdish territory and institutions with Turkish and American support

On March 10, 2025, Syria’s interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi signed a major agreement to reintegrate Kurdish-led institutions into the Syrian state.

This deal was largely driven by U.S. pressure and made possible by Turkey’s unexpected decision to support the process.

Initial progress has been made. Both sides carried out prisoner exchanges, and joint governance has been established in Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo. Damascus also regained control over prisons, camps, border crossings, and key infrastructure in the northeast.

The Kurds are seeking recognition of their identity and a degree of decentralization. Al-Sharaa is open to limited local control, such as Kurdish-run police and municipalities. President al-Sharaa firmly opposes granting any form of Kurdish autonomy, viewing it as a form of undermining Syrian national unity.
