🇮🇷🇺🇸 — Republican Candidate Donald Trump, via his iconic account on Twitter/X, says that the Islamic Republic of Iran is attempting on his life, with already "multiple attempts failed" and now "he is surrounded by more and more people with guns"

➡️ This comes days after the American Nationalist Candidate gave a speech, alongside Iran's Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi who lives in exile in the US, on "the need to remove Wilayat al-Faqih from the map" at the Israeli-American Council last week in Los Angeles, California

On the post on X, he says;
Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting.

Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again.
Not a good situation for anyone.

I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before.

Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service - Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan.
Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!

🇺🇸🇨🇦 First image released of 'cylindrical' UFO shot down by US fighter jet over Alaska in 2023.

Canada has released a first-ever image of the UFO shot down during the chase over Alaska and the Yukon territory that followed the now infamous Chinese spy balloon drama of February 2023.

The unusual, grainy and apparently xeroxed or printed photo depicts a seemingly circular white object with ill-defined edges — shot down by a US Air Force F-22 stealth fighter on a joint mission with the Canadian Armed Forces.

One unusual feature of the newly released UFO photo is that it had already been designated as 'unclassified' within just days of the now 19-month-old incident.

A possible reason, as one public affairs official with Canada's Department of National Defence (DND) warned colleagues, was internal fears that releasing this unclassified UFO image 'may create more questions/confusion.'

🇪🇬🤝🇸🇴 Egypt delivers more weapons to Somalia amid rising tensions with Ethiopia

An Egyptian warship has delivered a second major cache of weaponry to Somalia including anti-aircraft guns and artillery, officials said, in a move likely to stoke further friction between the two countries and Ethiopia.

“A shipment of Egyptian military aid has arrived in the Somali capital Mogadishu to support and build the capabilities of the Somali army,” Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Egypt delivered its first round of military aid to Somalia in more than four decades in August.

Ties between Egypt and Somalia have grown this year over their shared mistrust of Ethiopia, prompting Cairo to send several planeloads of arms to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, after the countries signed a joint security pact in August.

Ethiopia angered Mogadishu by agreeing to a preliminary deal in January with the breakaway region of Somaliland to lease land for a port in exchange for possible recognition of its independence from Somalia.

Ethiopia also has at least 3,000 soldiers stationed in Somalia as part of a peacekeeping initiative called the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), which is working to suppress an armed uprising, while an estimated 5,000-7,000 soldiers are deployed in other regions under a bilateral agreement.

Somalia has called the Somaliland deal an assault on its sovereignty and says it wants all Ethiopia’s soldiers to leave at the end of the year unless Addis Ababa scraps the agreement.

🇷🇺🇳🇴 Russian Warship Fires Warning Shots at Norwegian Fishing Vessel During Naval Exercise

A Russian warship reportedly fired warning shots at a Norwegian fishing boat during the joint Russian-Chinese naval exercise “Ocean 24” this month in Norway’s exclusive economic zone.

The incident, which occurred in the Barents Sea north of Vardø on September 12, has raised concerns about maritime safety and the impact of military exercises on civilian vessels.

According to the reports, Øystein Orten, a crew member on the 15-meter-long, Norwegian-flagged fishing vessel Ragnhild Kristinem, received a radio message from the Russian warship Admiral Levchenko, stating, “This is Russian Warship, you need to leave the area.”

The Russian destroyer explained they were conducting a live-firing practice. Orten, however, refused to move, citing the need to haul their fishing lines.

The situation escalated when the 163-meter-long Russian warship reportedly approached the fishing boat at high speed. Orten reported that the warship fired a cannon, which could be felt on board the vessel. Although not directly hit, the crew agreed to leave the area under what Orten described as “voluntary coercion.”

The Norwegian Defense Forces confirmed the were aware of the incident. Vegard Finberg, press officer at the Norwegian Armed Forces’ operational headquarters, stated they were aware of the dialogue between Norwegian-flagged Ragnhild Kristine and a Russian warship practicing in an announced area.

The incident occurred in the Norwegian exclusive economic zone, which is also considered international waters. While military exercises are permitted in these waters, Norwegian vessels aren’t obliged to leave areas in the Norwegian economic zone during such exercises.

🏭 Chart: Coal Consumption by Region (1965-2023) Despite efforts to decarbonize the economy, global coal consumption surpassed 164 exajoules for the first time in 2023. The fossil fuel still accounts for 26% of the world’s total energy consumption. China…
🏭 Coal's Resurgence Challenges Global Energy Transition

Global coal consumption and production hit record levels in 2023, with China leading the way in both consumption and production.

The Asia-Pacific region, particularly China and India, is driving the surge in coal demand, offsetting declines in other regions.

Despite efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources, coal remains a dominant player in the global energy mix, raising concerns about climate change and environmental impact.

China is by far the largest consumer of coal, accounting for 56% of the global total, with 91.94 exajoules in 2023.

It is followed by India, with 21.98 exajoules, and the U.S., with 8.20 exajoules. In 2023, India exceeded the combined consumption of Europe and North America for the first time.

Regionally, North America, Europe, and even the Rest of World have seen a decline in coal consumption since the 1990s. The Asia-Pacific region, however, has made up for this demand and more, with consumption soaring since about the year 2000.

In order to meet consumption demand, global coal production also reached its highest-ever level in 2023.

Over 8.7 billion tonnes of coal were mined, equal to about 179 exajoules worth, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for nearly 80% of global output. This activity was concentrated in Australia, China, India, and Indonesia.

🇨🇳 China’s Navy Deploys Triple Carrier Fleet, Icebreakers, and 400 Joint Ships in Massive Show of Strength

In an unprecedented display of naval power, China has deployed three aircraft carriers at sea simultaneously for the first time. The People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has reached a new milestone, showcasing its rapidly expanding naval capabilities and its ambitions to project power far beyond its shores. This comes jsut one month after China deployed three icebreakers to Arctic and a week after China and Russia deployed over 400 warships and 120 aircraft in operation Ocean 2024.

The Liaoning and Shandong, both established assets of the Chinese fleet, were joined by the Fujian, China’s third and largest carrier and PLAN’s first domestically designed and built. Though still in sea trials, the Fujian’s presence signals a significant step forward in China’s naval aviation program.

Last week, satellite imagery confirmed all three carriers were operational at sea. The Liaoning was spotted in the Philippine Sea, the Shandong off Hainan Island, and the Fujian undergoing trials near Shanghai. Each carrier group was flanked by an array of destroyers, frigates, and support vessels, reinforcing the PLAN’s growing ability to conduct coordinated, complex operations across multiple theaters.

China’s two operational carriers, Liaoning and Shandong, have frequently been deployed together, but the addition of the Fujian hints at the PLAN’s plans for more routine multi-carrier operations. This summer alone saw three such deployments, emphasizing the growing normalization of China’s carrier presence in the Western Pacific.

🇨🇳 A monumental milestone — for the first time in its 97-year history, three PLA Navy aircraft carriers were underway at the same time

China has deployed both operational carriers to the Western Pacific this summer (three times in three months)

The PLAN Shandong carrier group deployed to the Western Pacific in July & August, & Liaoning entered the region last week (on 17-18 September)

China’s 3rd & most sophisticated aircraft carrier—CNS Fujian (18)—is currently underway completing its 4th sea trial

• 8-day maiden sea trial, 1-8 May
• 20-day 2nd trial, 23 May-11 June
• 25-day 3rd trial, 3-28 July

Since returning from its 2nd WESTPAC deployment in August, Shandong has been in & out of port a few times. Sentinel 2 satellite imagery shows Shandong underway on 18 September, confirming for the first time that all 3 were operating simultaneously.

China has two commissioned operational aircraft carriers, CNS Liaoning (16) & CNS Shandong (17). As noted on the map, CNS Fujian (18) is completing sea trials & not in service yet.

• Liaoning: transited through Japanese waters 17 Sep & entered WESTPAC 18 Sep
• Shandong: underway & operating in the South China Sea on 18 Sep
• Fujian: began its 4th sea trial in the Bohai Sea 4 Sep
