🔶️ After Microsoft laid off an internal team focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, a team leader blasted the company for a lack of investment in these efforts.
🔶️ "True systems-change work associated with DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020," a leader of the team wrote in an email sent to thousands of employees, which was viewed by Business Insider.
🔶️ Many technology companies, including Microsoft, made commitments to improve diversity efforts after the 2020 murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the historic protests that followed.
🔶️ Despite those commitments, many tech companies have appeared to retreat somewhat from diversity efforts. Zoom laid off a DEI-focused team earlier this year, Bloomberg reported. Google and Meta also cut DEI programs last year, according to CNBC.

🔶️ Local police who were assigned by the Secret Service to help spot threats in the crowd at Donald Trump’s rally Saturday were inside the building where a gunman positioned himself on the roof to shoot at the former president, according to a Secret Service official briefed on the incident.
🔶️ From inside the Agr International building, they spotted a man acting furtively, walking back and forth around the building with some gear, and radioed a Secret Service command post to alert them, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
🔶️ The revelations add to the growing list of questions about the Secret Service’s plan for securing areas outside the perimeter and about the failure of law enforcement to act quickly enough on multiple early warnings of suspicious activity. The Washington Post reported in a video analysis Monday that bystanders at the Trump rally in Butler, Pa., warned local police that they had seen a man clambering onto the roof of the building. A video posted to social media shows one man shouting, “Officer! Officer!” as others point toward the building. “He’s on the roof!” a woman says.

🔶️ At least nine people were killed, including three suspects, and dozens of others injured in a shooting near a mosque in Oman's capital, Muscat, in a rare flare of violence in the Middle Eastern Sultanate.
🔶️ The shooting took place near a mosque in the al-Wadi al-Kabir neighborhood in the east of the city, the Royal Oman Police said in a post on X in the early hours of Tuesday morning, local time.
🔶️ The State Department has a level 2 travel advisory in place to exercise increased caution while traveling in Oman “due to terrorism and armed conflict,” specifically warning U.S. citizens not to travel to the area near the border with Yemen, the poorest country in the region that has been wracked by civil war since August 2014.
🔶️ Such violence is rare in Oman, which is situated on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula.
