THE SCIENCE OF SAMSARA AND NIRVANA
Buddhist insight is not informed by belief, culture, or metaphysical assumptions, but on observation and critical analysis. In that it does not exclude the conscious observer, its insights are formulated in terms of two different experiences: one of delusion that circles in suffering - a condition that needs to be remedied - samsara, and one of awareness that is free and awake to a natural potential of wisdom, love, and power, our innate condition that needs to be recovered - nirvana.
Jakob Leschly began his studies of Buddhism in 1974 and is a student of several great teachers, particularly Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche (pictured above), and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. Jakob has been an appointed translator and teacher for Siddhartha’s Intent since 1993.

This is again a rare opportunity to receive the transmission of the heart essence of the fivefold path of mahamudra which is a complete path to the attainment of enlightenment within one lifetime.
Mahamudra prayer was written by Rigdzin Chökyi Drakpa (1595–1659) – His Holiness Gyalwa Drikungpa – the first Chungtsang, emanation of Manjushri, co-head of Drikung Kagyu lineage.
The five “folds” are: (1) bodhicitta, (2) yidam — practicing the generation and completion stages of the highest yoga tantra, (3) guru-yoga — seeking union with the wisdom-mind of the Teacher (guru) for the recognition of the nature of mind, (4) actual engagement of Mahamudra, (5) dedication of virtues.
Practice of the first “fold” assumes the prior completion of what is known as the preliminaries — “foundational practices” (Tib. ngondro) both outer and inner. The OUTER preliminaries refer to the “Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind” taught by Gampopa: (1) precious human life, (2) impermanence, (3) karma, (4) nature of samsara as unsatisfactoriness.
INNER preliminaries include: (1) going for refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, (2) Vajrasattva purification practice, (3) mandala-offering, (4) guru-yoga for the inspiration-blessings of the root and lineage teachers.

“Instead of trying to block out our sensory impressions or suppress your mental activities as they manifest, view them as the radiance of the sun or wavs on the ocean. Just as the sun and its radiance or the ocean and its waves are intimately related, the various activities of mind and the natural condition of the mind are intimately connected. Instead of viewing mental activities as negative and something that needs to be eradicated, view them as the creative activity of the mind.” Moonbeams Of Mahamudra by Traleg Kyapgon Rinpoche, Shogam Publications, p.228.
Beginning this Tuesday 15th February 2022, 7-8.30pm New York time E-Vam Buddhist Institute’s U.S. online teaching program begins with the course Moonbeams of Mahamudra - The Path of Meditation with Lama Jinpa.
