Food Storage & Seed Collection - What should I do?

First off, the idea that the United States can survive and be completely unscathed by the wrath of God entirely is a total fallacy that can end at any moment. The food you eat, the plentiful restaurants available 24/7, the clean water you can go pick up in a moments notice. Every simple and easy opportunity we have to be able to eat and drink clean liquids on a moments notice could end within less than a minute of natural or manmade destruction. "But I have an emergency ration of food/water for so many months" - That's great. But what kind of food is it? 95% of what we consider as "Emergency Food" is full of preservatives and chemicals, most of which will likely compromise your immune system at a certain point. That is if you've made the right decision in life to stop eating goyslop and your body isn't used to junk food anymore. But let's discuss this idea of only depending on your emergency food/water storage.

Why would one depend on their food/water storage? To last you in the event of a survival situation, right? But, until when? Until the government comes in to save all of us? This is the answer most preppers will give you - "Well until things get back to normal" - Okay, what if things don't go back to normal by the time your food and water storage run out completely? Will you go out and loot? Will you act as a marauder against your neighbors? Yeah, most people sure think they can play big bad survivalist in that aspect. At that point what is even your goal? To survive right? Then why put yourself in harms way or even in the situation to be a target? When shit hits the fan you shouldn't be the one in the grocery store fighting over supplies - You should be the one sitting on the hill with binoculars observing.

Your emergency food/water supplies should last you long enough to do one thing and one thing only - And that is harvest your own food and sourcing your own water. This is a rule I learned years ago by myself because I came to the realization that people think the government will always come to save the day and that just simply isn't the case. Look at the several category 5 hurricanes the South experienced in 2017. Sure. the government went to the rescue of the major cities, but the rest of the states were quite literally left to die. People were without a viable source of food/water and homes for literally 9 months to a whole year.

Your mindset when preparing to survive in the event that the system goes down for a while shouldn't be to wait it out until the government fixes everything. Your mindset should be "We're on our own" - We in the aspect of your neighbors as well by the way. Regardless, one should have the ability to eat comfortably, drink water comfortably far passed the harvest of food that you are growing as well. This is why it is so important for YOU to GROW YOUR OWN FOOD. Learn what you can, store as many seeds as possible and ALWAYS ONLY USE HEIRLOOM SEEDS. You should also either consolidate any water filtration systems or understand how you can naturally filter your own water in the event you need to.

You can not depend on free handouts and any help in a mass catastrophic event, which is becoming more likely by the day. You must learn the art of self sustainability in order to viably survive and not starve to death nor poison yourself by drinking poorly filtered water.

This is a topic that I don't see discussed at all in the prepping community. Using your emergency storage of food to fully build your ability to be self sustainable - Which, let's be real here. If you have the space for a garden and the ability to build one then you should. There's no excuse not to at this point. Money is not an issue with gardening, you can figure out how to build a very sustainable garden by literally digging through the trash or simply having a shovel. seeds and knowledge.

I guess the saying goes - You don't put your seatbelt on during the car accident right? So why wait to learn all of these extremely valuable traits and knowledge WHEN SHTF?

Reposting because, ironically, I decided to post this almost 1 month before this exact scenario happened in a massive region of Eastern TN and Western NC and only ran into a very few individual families who were cut off but had enough food and water storage to survive as well as a garden..

Seriously, you never know when you’ll need to survive. The most unlikely scenario always happens when you least expect it

Prepare accordingly because you might, quite literally, starve or thirst yourself to death if you’re cut off from civilization and don’t have the necessary items to sustain your basic human needs like eating or drinking clean water

Even on day 7 out in Eastern TN & Western NC, we were finding communities who were totally cut off and literally drinking the water from puddles in the road. This stuff is no joke my friends, it’s not some fantasy prepper conspiracy, it can turn into your reality in less than a few hours

Because the odds are when you desperately need a GPS you're not going to have one - But you know what can't be shut off or die from low battery during an emergency situation? A map!

Is there anyone here willing to go out on mission in Western North Carolina for an extended period of time? Manpower, specifically security elements, are desperately needed at this moment. Missions inside the AO will require you to carry your rifle and conduct night patrols as well as guard drop off depots, missions outside the AO will be concealed carry only. You will not just be a security element however, you would also be helping with physical labor and supply delivery to support people living in tent cities.
