The title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the "Gold Star" order was conferred on the soldier of the Third Separate Assault Brigade, Senior Lieutenant Oleksandr Khizhnyak.

Since February 24, 2022, he has been involved in the most intense battles on the Zaporizhia, Bahmut, and Svatove fronts. He has destroyed dozens of occupiers and saved the lives of his comrades.

For example, near Novodarivka, by damaging a Russian helicopter, Oleksandr personally eliminated at least three occupiers and thwarted the evacuation of an enemy officer. In 2023, near Klyshchyevka, he led the defense in a situation of encirclement, organized a breakthrough and evacuated dozens of soldiers without losses. He continued to carry out tasks of destroying the enemy in Luhansk region.
