SOMERS, Connecticut

A power failure at Osborn Correctional Institution Wed sent one staff member to the hospital and placed the facility on lockdown, the Connecticut DOC said.

The staff member who went to the hospital has been treated and released.

The outage began around noon when a high-voltage underground electrical line failed. People inside the facility reported hearing a loud blast at the time of the short-circuit.

Correction and FD personnel responded to the scene. Fire officials cleared the area and determined it was safe. The facility was then switched to a backup generator while maintenance staff and electrical contractors began assessing the damage.

The DOC said it could not estimate how long repairs would take. Street power was restored to the Osborn Correctional Institution at around 8:15 p.m.

Lestock, SK - Canada

Nobody was hurt when nearly 50 train cars went off the track near Lestock on Thursday morning.

In a statement, CN Rail said it responded to the derailment around 5:40 a.m.

“There are no dangerous goods, leaks, fires or injures reported and there is no threat to public safety,” the statement read.

In total, CN said 49 cars carrying potash derailed in different positions along the mainline.

CN is trying to figure out how the derailment happened. CN crews and local first responders are on scene, according to the rail company.

Only one public access has been blocked off. Highway 15 alongside the train tracks is still open to traffic.

DAUPHIN CO., Pennsylvania

The ramp from I-83 North to 13th St (Exit 44A) is closed in Dauphin Co after a sinkhole opened up Thursday afternoon.

PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler described it as "a significant sinkhole that is too big to allow traffic past it safely."
