France Acknowledges 1944 Massacre of Senegalese Soldiers – Senegalese President

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced that France has formally acknowledged the 1944 massacre of Senegalese soldiers in Thiaroye.

Hundreds of soldiers are believed to have been killed in the incident, following the protests over unpaid demobilization benefits for their service in World War II.

The protests were triggered by the government’s decision to freeze EU membership negotiations until 2028. PM Irakli Kobakzhidze said Georgia should ultimately become a member state, but do so on fair terms. He accused the EU of using the accession talks to “blackmail” Georgia and meddle in its politics.

The unrest is supported by a coalition of opposition parties and Georgia’s pro-EU President Salome Zourabichvili, who called the current government “illegitimate.”

Washington issues a statement addressing the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham advances in Syria, apparently feels the need to clarify that it “has nothing to do with this offensive” led by a “designated terrorist organization.”

The Syrian Arab Army has reportedly been amassing troops and military equipment near the city of Hama - approximately 80km south of Aleppo - in preparation for its defense, as shown in multiple videos on social media.
