The newspaper claims that Martens actually meant to ask about expert discussions on how to create personnel problems for the Russian army, in order to force Russia to enter peace negotiations.
FAZ emphasizes that its editorial position is not that as many Russian soldiers as possible should be killed, but rather that it supports "Ukraine's right to self-defense guaranteed by international law and the swiftest possible end to the Russian aggressive war."
