🇦🇺🇯🇵 On the Increase of Japanese Presence in the Asia-Pacific

The authorities of Australia, the United States, and Japan continue to develop a trilateral defense partnership. Last week, it became known that from 2025, Japanese servicemembers will regularly conduct training together with their American and Australian counterparts at the Darwin base.

The official goal is to strengthen military relations between the countries. However, given that Darwin is one of Australia's closest military facilities to the South China Sea, such cooperation can be seen as preparation for a potential military conflict with China.

🔻It is worth mentioning that this base hosts about two thousand U.S. Marines on a rotational basis. Their representative already stated this summer about their readiness to support the Philippine military in their operations to deliver cargo to an outpost in the disputed waters.

Similarly, the Japanese continue to increase their presence in the region. Just recently, the authorities in Tokyo and Manila signed an agreement on free access, allowing Japanese military personnel to be present on Philippine territory for exercises. This year, the first naval drills with the participation of Japanese and Philippine servicemembers were also held.

By the way, the trend towards the development of such defense cooperation with the countries of the region is one of the indicators that the Japanese authorities want to bring the country to the second place in terms of military influence in the region. This is beneficial for the Americans, given the elevation of the Chinese threat to a sacred status at the official level, so Japan is trying not to lag behind this trend.
