On Tuesday morning, the Arizona House Appropriations Committee stripped Secretary of State Katie Hobbs of her ability to defend election lawsuits. It gave the power exclusively to the Attorney General.
Later in the day, the state's Senate Appropriations Committee passed the same changes. Now these proposed changes are part of the full budget proposal that will be voted on later this week.
The provision restricting the Secretary of State ends on January 2, 2023, when a new Secretary of State is in office.

On Monday, the cowardly school board of Scottsdale Unified School District chickened out of their scheduled in-person meeting. So concerned parents held their own assembly and press briefing outside of Coronado High School.
Amy Carney led the charge and spoke on behalf of Scottsdale’s parents:
“You should know that parents across the state of Arizona have been meeting. This past week, we’ve been hosting meetings in our homes to organize a parent-led movement to reclaim our Arizona schools. Parents are uniting together to create support teams in every region of the state to create a system of support for each other. We the Arizona Parent Coalition officially launched on Wednesday, a campaign to actively recruit, train, and support parents to run for our school boards.

It is almost ready to be voted on in the House, and only needs one adjustment in order to get the 31st vote, which I approved of. It should get done tomorrow and hopefully will be on the way to the Governor.”

They intend to staff all 46 and are currently discussing adding a 3rd shift each day to meet the target counting completion date of June 30th . As of as of May 14th, they have counted 660,000 of the 2.1M ballots.

New Judicial Watch Study Finds 353 U.S. Counties in 29 States with Voter Registration Rates Exceeding 100%
Judicial Watch announced today that a September 2020 study revealed that 353 U.S. counties had 1.8 million more registered voters than eligible voting-age citizens. In other words, the registration rates of those counties exceeded 100% of eligible voters. The study found eight states showing state-wide registration rates exceeding 100%: Alaska, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Judicial Watch relies on its voter registration studies to warn states that they are failing to comply with the requirements of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, which requires states to make reasonable efforts to clean their voter rolls. Judicial Watch can and has sued to enforce compliance with federal law.
“The new study shows 1.8 million excess, or ‘ghost’ voters in 353 counties across 29 states,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The data highlights the recklessness of mailing blindly ballots and ballot applications to voter registration lists. Dirty voting rolls can mean dirty elections.”

They have counted an estimated 750K ballots so far and expect to be about 50% complete by the end of the week, which puts them on target to finish before the contract expires at the end of June.
As Ken mentioned in a 5/11 interview with KFYI, the audit is also confirming that envelopes have signatures and will be spot checking voter registrations based on data analysis. The final report is expected to be released about a month after the audit finishes.
