Postdoctoral researcher Citizenship, Democracy & Social Media
Amsterdam Law School – Institute for Information Law
Job description
The Digital Society
Digital information technology is becoming ever more deeply and rapidly entrenched in our society. Extensive digitalisation is set to radically change practically all aspects of society, not only in the Netherlands but throughout the world.
The Netherlands is a compact, highly developed, well-organised country with excellent physical and digital infrastructures. The academic research conducted at our universities is of high quality across the board. Furthermore, our researchers are highly experienced in crossing the boundaries between disciplines and institutions. This unique combination of characteristics creates an equally unique opportunity for the Netherlands: to lead the world in the creation of effective connections between digital technology, people and their societies.
In the years ahead, Dutch universities will work together towards this common goal. They will further combine the existing wealth of research in this field and focus it on a clear, common profile. As a corollary of the National Science Agenda, Dutch universities want to invest in cutting-edge research together with other knowledge institutions, the business sector and the government.

SCHOOL OF ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONIC & COMPUTER ENGINEERING
UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Our projects are about inventing, engineering, operating and understanding complete systems, from new modes of imaging to optical and mechanical instrument design, to electronics, signal processing and real-time software generating big data, to working with medical researchers and biologists to understand the data. Imaging systems are being developed for clinical and biological collaborations, for example, in cancer detection, scar assessment and physiological studies of the human airway.
This position will be a key appointment in our research on advanced extensions of optical coherence tomography (OCT), largely polarisation-sensitive OCT, but also microscope-in-a-needle, OCT angiography and lymphangiography, OCT elastography and clinical OCT, with applications largely in imaging airways, but also in burn scars, and the eye.
We are seeking a researcher who can contribute to the polarisation-sensitive OCT in the airways project and more, and who is expert in at least one of the following: optical coherence tomography, optics experimentation, optical microscopy, optical design, signal processing, modelling and project management.

Postdoc on Architectures for In-Memory Computations, Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology
Job description
The classical Von Neumann computer architectures force data to be moved from a background memory to the processor's foreground memories before computations can be performed. Modern applications, e.g. from the domain of big data, do not fit well on these architectures. Typically their performance is hampered by the memory bottleneck (due to lack of memory bandwidth, too long memory latencies, little data reuse opportunities, etc.). Near memory computations have been proposed to partially address this bottleneck. The H2020 project MNEMOSENE takes this idea one step further. It will develop and demonstrate a new, ultra-low energy, computation-in-memory (CIM) based architecture, including simulation and compiler tools; so the computation will be as close as possible to the main memory.

Since the introduction of deep learning (DL) techniques, the advances in video analytics are going in a rapid pace. Deep learning is based on neural networks comprising multiple layers of connected neurons that can be trained to classify input signals. In the domain of video analysis, this technique is used to detect, analyze, recognize, or classify objects. The deep neural network requires a tremendous amount of compute power and huge memory bandwidth. To satisfy these requirements advanced DL algorithms and architectures have to be developed which exploit parallel processing, in particular vector parallelism, specific accelerators, and advanced memory interfaces and memory hierarchy.

Postdoctoral position for in vivo imaging of intrinsic retinal fluorescence in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Hunter at the University of Rochester
A postdoctoral position to apply and develop new applications of two-photon excited fluorescence imaging in the living eye is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Hunter. Research will include development of two-photon excited fluorescence ophthalmoscopy to non-invasively assess cellular metabolism and function in the living eye. Further, we will be developing capabilities to measure the redox ratio in the retina of living primates.
Candidates with a strong background in physiological optics, retinal physiology, microscope development and/or retinal imaging are encouraged to apply. Experience with optical alignment and MATLAB programming is highly desirable. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent training. Senior graduate students nearing completion of their degree are strongly encouraged to apply. Opening is available immediately and position will remain open until qualified individual is identified. Appointment is for 1 year and may be extended up to 3 years depending on progress and review.

PhD position in Molecular Mechanisms of Vascular Morphogenesis, University of Basel
100%, starting date by agreement
The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading institutes worldwide for molecular and biomedical basic research and teaching. It is home to more than 30 research groups with scientists from over 40 countries. Research at the Biozentrum focuses on the areas of Cell Growth & Development, Infection Biology, Neurobiology, Structural Biology & Biophysics and Computational & Systems Biology. With its more than 500 employees, the Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel’s Faculty of Science.
A PhD position is open in the Focal Area of Growth and Development in the research group of Prof. Markus Affolter. We offer an exciting international research environment at the Biozentrum in Basel to study the morphogenetic mechanisms of blood vessel formation in vivo. By using novel genetic approaches combined with high-resolution confocal live-imaging, we are investigating the mechanisms of junctional remodeling during sprouting angiogenesis in the zebrafish embryo. The PhD project will involve the generation of tissue specific and inducible knock-out models in zebrafish and state-of-the-art in vivo imaging approaches to dissect protein dynamics during endothelial cell movements and cell-cell interactions.
Your profile
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a Master degree and with a solid background in genetics, molecular biology and cell biology. Experience with zebrafish is desired but not mandatory. Teamwork within the international group requires spoken and written English language skills.
For further information, please consult the webpage of Prof. Markus Affolter: (https://www.biozentrum.unibas.ch/affolter/) and the following publications:
