Discussion of AI on last night's Millenniyule touched on a point you don't often hear in DR circles; something along the lines of "AI content generation will allow ordinary people to produce high-quality propaganda the way our well-funded institutional enemies can."

It calls back to claims about "democratisation" and narratives of how various technologies supposedly made our lives better. How did this work out with the internet? The home computer? Smartphones? Social media?

This is a common sales pitch that the institutions themselves love to use, but what we see happening over and over again is that They always retain a disproportionate amount of power — they always have a head start over ordinary people.

Big corporations are always going to have more compute power, more resources, more hands to guide the AI to produce content. Far from helping us to compete with the wealth and resources they have, it will just make their propaganda regime into even more of a well-oiled machine.
