The nature of antinomianism is about undoing "psychic knots".
If you follow the laws of a tradition it may very well be that it improves your physical and spiritual life. However the idea is this will only happen up to a point.
Following the exoteric laws and moral codes of a tradition will eventually mean you have to "cut" yourself down to fit a shape. Most people aren't much, so following the laws and morals actually builds them up into a "shape", and only then may they feel the limiting effects.
The techniques of the LHP as I see it are used to counter-balance the RHP when it becomes rigid. The rigidity acts like a dam that builds up psychic pressure. Participating in a "taboo" as a ritual act may release that energy and allow progress where once there was stagnation.
The irony is. In modern times what taboos are left? Eating meat, drinking alcohol, perverse sex acts. Etc. etc. are all legal and socially accepted.
So to be LHP in modernity means to make yourself into a temporary ascetic over a period and then "release".
