Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov has been arrested and detained in France. What now for 800 million users?

Please join us in Luc's Cafe in Manchester this Thursday 29th August for a practical discussion on what to do if Telegram is blocked in the UK, or removed from app stores, and alternatives such as Session and Element.
The talk will be suitable for beginners, everything will be explained from scratch, with continuous Q&A throughout.
We will discuss open source, decentralized alternatives and why Signal is terrible for privacy. We will also discuss VPNs, Proxies, Tor, and how to backup your telegram contacts, messages and files, if Telegram is wiped out.

If there is interest, we can go through other related topics such as Linux (alternative to Windows) and Android smartphone Degoogling.

CCTV footage of alleged flyposting which Manchester City Council attempted to use in a prosecution, which they lost.
The main pixellation was added by the council. The black disc was added by us.
There is some more footage than this, but most of it is similar. They also submitted two other camera angles which showed nothing.
For case description see

Huge court victory yesterday against Manchester City Council for stickering / flyposting.

This marks the 4th legal victory for freedom in Manchester this year, the other 3 against CPS.

Short version: the council evidence was shit, and the CCTV view of the placing of objects alleged to be stickers was blocked by a pillar.
The Judge dismissed the case at half-time, before the respondent had even given her defence, and we were having celebratory drinks in the pub by 12.30pm.

Huge thanks to all at Peacekeepers who provided endless help and support.

In a case that dragged on for 2 years, 5 court hearings, the council were sent packing after bringing 7 witnesses into court, none of which had witnessed the incident.

They had CCTV of an event in Manchester in Nov 2022 where 100s of people were preventing children and adults being put in harms way, by warning them of the law breaking going on inside the building, where no informed consent was sought by "doctors" injecting people with a known lethal substance masquerading as a covid jab.

See their CCTV footage at:
https://t.iss.one/A4Army/1157

Months later at a separate event, the council brought 7 people impersonating constables along with a riot van (the bodycam footage was later acquired via DSAR) to assault, batter and kidnap the respondent, dragged her to the van, broke GDPR by forcing her to give her details, then dearrested her.

The council then sent a summons with no court name/seal, no signature, no name (see later in this post for more details).

They spent the next 1.8 years harassing her and dragging her through the courts in a private criminal prosecution.
They showed no interest in targetting any of the other 100s of alleged people who were allegedly placing objects alleged to be stickers on the windows.

Meanwhile the entire of Manchester city (and much of the suburbs) is dripping in flyposts from various political groups, businesses, concerts etc, many with urls, qr codes and even phone numbers, the most expansive being the Oxford road bus stops, where groups of students can be found with buckets of flypost paste, and the council shows no interest in assaulting any of them.
Even worse, in Nov 2023, Andy Burnham and the Chief Constable of GMP made statements in MSM allowing the flyposting of pro-Israeli posters.

The council's 7 witnesses consisted of zero people that witnessed the incident in question, they simply viewed the CCTV footage afterwards. One guy showed up at 10pm and took photos of the alleged stickers. Another witness statement had only one line "I made a request to the CCTV Town Hall Complex control room for footage to be downloaded" - and they took him off work and brought him into court for that.

On the second and final day of the trial, 14/11/2024, Deputy District Judge Harney heard the council's evidence, and the 3 remaining "witnesses".
The respondent grilled these three on how many other flyposting cases they had worked on. The video editing guy said zero cases ... in 15 years of working in the same position.

The council had supplied dozens of photos of the individual stickers.
The lead "witness" was pointed toward the first sticker.
"Can you be sure this particular sticker was placed there by the respondent?"
"Eh, well, no not that one in particular"
"Ok, and the second sticker, what about that?"
"Well, eh, no not that specific sticker, exactly..."
"Ok so currently you are accusing the respondent of placing zero stickers on the window?"
To which he had no answer.

It was then pointed out that the CCTV view of alleged sticker placement was blocked by a pillar, again he had no answer.

2 of the witnesses were shown a printout of the pro-Israeli poster in court, and asked, "Can I post that in Manchester right now? because your boss, Andy Burnham, says I can"
Neither could give any answer.
(...contd)

(...contd)
One final nail in the coffin was that the security guard witness who photographed the stickers at 10pm, had written in his evidence that some of the stickers were not to do with covid/jabs, "some of them related to plastic straw ban, fear spread by television, promoting healthy eating etc".
The lead witness had repeatedly mentioned "anti-vaxx", and used that to identify the respondent in person at a later event.
But the Judge pointed out that many stickers were not to do with covid, so the lead witness's IDing was questionable.

At half time, before the respondent even gave her defence, the Judge said, normally the respondent raises this themselves, but I raise it on your behalf (she was about to dismiss the case).. the CCTV shows a female with what appears to be pieces of paper, which it could be inferred were stickers, but as the lead witness admitted, the scene was chaos, there were lots of people, lots of hands. At many points it was not possible to say who was sticking what where. The respondent need prove nothing.
The Judge then asked the council's brief if she believed the evidence could pass the Galbraith test (No case for the defendant to answer - whereby a defendant seeks acquittal without having to present a defence, because of the insufficiency of the prosecution's case). Head hung low, she answered no, and the day was won.

Re: the summons, see here
https://t.iss.one/c/1948194031/1/13204

This was sent by post by the council. The respondent spent over a year interrogating HMCTS over it, and grilled the Judge multiple times, trying to get the name of the person who issued it, with no result.
She got 4 court extracts (aka memorandum of entry), zero of which had any Judge's or Mags name on it, and 3 of 4 said "defendent not present", even though she was.
Then only tiny morsel HMCTS gave up was that the court authorised the summons on 03/07/2023. But the council had written "Justices' Clerk for the said city" and 18/05/2023 on it.
The initial hearing had 3 JPs, who refused to give their names. No amount of emailing, ringing or going in person to the court has been able to get their names.
